Assistant Professor and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Graduate Specialty Coordinator at Wayne State University, Dr. Stephens has worked as a nurse practitioner for over two decades, providing psychiatric care in the metro Detroit area as well as contributing to published works. As an RN, she completed home visits for maternal health and infant support, and as an NP, she continues to specialize in women’s health and maternal mental health.

Umeika collaborates with clinical therapists and the honey infant feeding team, offers medication education for those curious though not sure medication is of interest, pharmacogenetic testing for medications, holistic options, and truly strives to create a patient centered care atmosphere.

A mother, teacher, mentor and guide, Umeika’s expertise and empathy are second to none. She strives to partner with all her patients to achieve goals and receive treatments that support them in becoming the best version of themselves. She believes that care occurs as a team effort, because while she is an expert in what she does, you are the expert in your lived experiences.

A lifelong Michigander and native Detroiter, Umeika has been married since 2000 and is the mother of three children.
